HK's Administrative Secretary Visits New ZealandAnson Chan, administrative secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, arrived in Auckland Monday for the first-ever major Hong Kong promotion in New Zealand and enhance Hong Kong's relations and business ties with that country, according to a government press release issued in Hong Kong Monday.Speaking at a gala dinner to launch the Hong Kong New Zealand 2000 Promotion, Chan anticipated that the promotion would herald a new era in the relations between the two places. "Hong Kong will have stronger links with New Zealand - a country with which we have such a lot in common through family ties, trade, business and the corresponding institutions of civil society," she said. Noting that Hong Kong's economy was picking up after the ravages of the Asian financial turmoil, Chan said it was opportune time to advocate the advantages of the SAR. Chan also took the opportunity to brief the gathering on how Hong Kong had been faring since the reunification. She said that continuity and stability had always been important to Hong Kong and that was precisely what the SAR continued to enjoy. The dinner was well attended by over 250 guests from political, business and academic fields. Earlier in the day, Chan officially launched two other promotional events - an exhibition on Hong Kong's infrastructure and architecture and a tourism promotion musical presentation.
