Tianjin Expects Two-digit Growth

Tianjin, a major industrial city in north China, is expected to generate 10.5 percent in gross domestic product (GDP) this year, according to official sources from the municipal statistic bureau.

The city plans to produce 162.8 billion yuan in GDP in the year 2000, more than 117 billion yuan of which were achieved in the first three quarters of the year.

This means the city has to generate another 45.72 billion yuan in the last three months of the year, 15.24 billion yuan on a monthly basis.

To achieve the goal, the municipal government is working hard to maintain the growth rate in its industrial production, help more debt-ridden state-owned enterprises out of difficulty.

Besides, service industry, foreign trade and investment must contribute more to city's annual economic growth rate, a municipal official said.
