50,000 Shanghai Enterprises to Open Homepages

Fifty thousand enterprises in Shanghai will open homepages on the Internet to do E-business and build up their corporate images.

Major hardware and software suppliers in China are distributing free laser discs and holding seminars in order to increase understanding of networks, business strategies and the World Trade Organization (WTO) among the enterprises.

Five hundred college students have been sent to conduct surveys in the companies.

The event is initiated by several computer journals and IT companies and supported by the information office of the Shanghai municipal government.

Most of the enterprises in the metropolis seem to be slow-moving in today's information era. According to statistics, 78 percent of enterprises in the city have not yet connected to the Internet.
