China Agricultural High-tech Expo Opens
The 7th China Yangling Agricultural High-tech Expo opened Sunday at the State Yangling Agricultural High-tech Industries Pilot Zone.
Yangling agricultural high-tech zone, the only one of its kind in the country set up in 1997, is located in Wugong County, 90 kilometers away from Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province. Yangling is known as the biggest agricultural science and technology city in China.
Vice-Premier Li Lanqing wrote a letter of congratulation to the expo. Jiang Chunyun, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and Hu Qili, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended Sunday's opening ceremony.
Vice-Premier Li Lanqing said in his letter that the expo is expected to play an important role in speeding up the transfer and industrialization of agricultural high technologies, promoting the adjustment of agricultural and industrial structure in rural areas and raising the income of farmers.
An exhibition of agricultural high technologies and projects of industrialization of agricultural high-tech achievements, investment and trade fairs, auctioning of high-tech achievements and technical training will be held during the five-day expo.
According to the organizing committee, 70 percent of around 5, 000 exhibits are new technologies, which cover agricultural high-tech, planting of farm produce, storage of agricultural and sideline products and farming machinery.
One million people are expected to attend the expo, which is jointly sponsored by 16 state ministries, Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the Europe Union and the World Bank.
