Exhibition From East China's Jiangsu Province Opens in Nigeria's Capital

An exhibition of machinery and electric products from east China's Jiangsu Province was opened in Nigerian commercial capital Lagos on Saturday with the participation of 26 exhibitors from the province.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Gao Heyun, deputy director-general of Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the provincial government, said the exhibition was aimed at enhancing the mutual understanding and cooperation between Chinese businessmen and their Nigerian counterparts.

Gao said that the exhibition, the third of its kind sponsored by Jiangsu Province since 1995, was an important event for strengthening economic relations and trade between China and Nigeria.

Noting that bilateral trade has been progressing well over the past several years, Gao said Jiangsu Province exported to Nigeria products with a total value of 36.04 million US dollars in the first eight months of this year, compared to that of 29.07 million in 1999.

According to Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Liang Yinzhu, Nigeria has become China's second largest trading partner in Africa after South Africa with a total volume of bilateral trade amounting to 508 million dollars in 1999.
