Motorola Plans to Go WestMotorola is striving to fully introduce the knowledge economy into China's vast western regions and has planned to build up a brand-new intellectual-intensive industry in Sichuan Province, Tang Zhongding, CEO of Motorola Asia-Pacific Regions, said.Tang Zhongding, who is making a tour in Sichuan, said that Motorola¡¯s future lies in China and the future of its new economy with intellectual property rights as core would be in Chengdu (Sichuan Province). The major aim of the visit is to seek large-scale strategic cooperation in information industry like software and chips between Motorola and Sichuan, he added. Motorola signed a cooperative Memorandum of Understanding on November 1 with the Chengdu High-tech Park to build up a software center and promised to make the center reach SEI fifth level, the highest level in the world, in a short period. Motorola will also invest in the fourth phase of chip manufacturing of the Leshan-Phinix Semi-conductor Company to make it the biggest and best center of semi-conductor production. Furthermore, the company will provide training for about 300 employees from 100 enterprises in Sichuan, and a high-speed highway communications network in Sichuan is under consideration.
