New Family Cars to Be Available In First Half of 2001
A newly-designed car, Sail, will roll off the production line later this year and be available on the market in the first half of next year, according to the Shanghai General Motors Company, a Sino-US joint venture.
Chen Hong, general manager of the company, said that the new car will be priced at 100,000 yuan (about 12,000 US dollars), affordable to most Chinese family car buyers. The safety devices of the compact car with a cylinder volume of 1.6 liters are in leading edge among the Chinese-built family cars. The car's chassis suspension is adjusted to meet road conditions in China, so that the car will be able to run smoothly on both expressways and bumpy mountainous roads.
