Shanghai Vows to Crack down on Counterfeit Products

The mayor of Shanghai Municipality, largest commercial center in China, has vowed to crack down on the manufacture and sale of counterfeit and shoddy goods to protect intellectual property.

In the age of a knowledge-based economy, protection of intellectual property has become a social concern, said Xu Kuangdi at a national high-tech patent promotion conference Thursday.

The city will make further efforts to strengthen the management of product quality and safeguard market orders, Xu said.

The protection of intellectual property and crackdown on the production and sale of counterfeit and shoddy products are matters of great significance to improve the city's investment environment, the official added.
