Premier Zhu Meets Former British PM Heath

Premier Zhu Rongji met Friday with former British Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath and said China and Britain should continue to expand bilateral cooperation in various areas.

Zhu complimented Heath on his ceaseless efforts and great contributions in improving Sino-British relations. He said the expansion of Sino-British cooperation in various sectors will benefit both economies and serve to enhance peace and development in the world.

China and Britain established ambassadorial-level relations during Sir Heath's term as prime minister from 1970 to 1974.

Heath noted that he is deeply impressed by the changes in China over the past years. He said he will continue his efforts for the development of Sino-British relations.

This is Heath's 25th visit to China and Zhu has met Heath four times since 1996.
