No Security, No Healthy Development of Internet: Official

Symposium on web security and management held in Beijing

Co-sponsored by People's Daily Online, CRI Online and American Online (AOL), a symposium on Internet Security and Management was called Thursday morning in Beijing.

Zhao Qizhen, director of the Information Office of the State Council and vice-director Yang Zhenquan attended the symposium.

Addressing the symposium, Yang Zhenquan said that Internet security and management has become an issue of general concern of people to date following an Internet boom throughout the world. More efforts should be made to guarantee the security of the Internet since a step-up of Internet construction in China, he added.

"No security and effective management, there will be no healthy development of the Internet to speak of, not to say the legal rights and overall interests of websites and social public to be undermined, that's a consensus view reached by the International community", he is quoted as saying.

People's Daily Online and CRI Online are two major online news media, among the five key similar websites in China.
