Intl. Sculpture Exhibition Opens in Zhejiang

The 2000 West Lake International Invitational Sculpture Exhibition opened Thursday at the Taiziwan Park in this capital of east China's Zhejiang Province.

A one-meter high rock stands in front of the park gate. Everyone who visits the exhibition is invited to take hammer and chisel to jointly create a sculpture named "Communicating," which will be a permanent art work for the city after the one-month event.

The open-air exhibition will display a total of 55 sculpture works including "Lotus," "Under the Sun," and "Nature Joy," featuring harmony and exchange between landscape and human beings.

The works were created by 54 statuary artists from China, the United States, Britain, Italy, Slovak and the Republic of Korea.

The exhibition was sponsored by the municipal government of Hangzhou, National City Sculpture Committee and the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
