Elite Exhibitions to Gather at the Shanghai Arts Festival

Seven elite exhibitions and expositions including the "Shanghai Art Fair" will gather at the Second Shanghai International Festival of Arts from Friday.

A large number of art companies, galleries and institutions will participate in the exhibitions, which will display various kinds of domestic and foreign fine art works.

As a main contributor to the Shanghai International Festival of Arts, the "Shanghai Art Fair" will utilize an area of 8,200 square meters. One fifth of the 200 exhibition booths at the fair are allocated to famous overseas art galleries.

"Shanghai Spirit--Shanghai Biennial 2000" will invite over 60 famous artists from both China and abroad to display their works.

The event provides a unique opportunity for artists to show their understanding of different historical backgrounds, nations and ethnicity, and the diversity of contemporary artistic development around the world.

"The Second China National Arts and Crafts Exposition", undertaken by the China Arts and Crafts Association, will display selected Chinese handicrafts, including stone-carving, wood-carving, and porcelain engraving, in a bid to promote Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.

"Exhibition of the Characters of China's West Xia Kingdom" shows the discovered relics of West Xia documents and characters to allow people to view its practical value and the history of the Kingdom recorded in West Xia characters.

Other exhibitions include the Exhibition of Joan Miro "Mallorca's Selected Works", and "Selected Works of Qi Baishi".
