Train Researchers in Northeast China RewardedThe Changchun Passenger Train Plant gave 2.52 million-yuan (301,204 US dollars) on October 31 in rewards to 170 researchers for their contributions to technological progress during the 1996-2000 period. The plant, located in this capital of Jilin Province, granted 50,000 yuan (6,024 dollars) to outstanding and productive researchers each. Rarely has such big-sum of money ever been rewarded to researchers by major state-owned enterprises in northeast China, the country's largest heavy industrial center. During the 1996-2000 period, the Plant, China's largest subway and passenger train builder developed 104 types of new products to meet the needs of ever-changing market. The plant has also developed and built 217 subway trains for Iran. The plant attributes its success largely to having a large number of young and middle-aged researchers. It has pursued policies to encourage its researchers to take initiatives in developing new products. As a result, researchers now achieve at least four major findings and develop at least two types of new products on average every month. |
