China Welcomes Cease-Fire Agreement Reached by Israel and Palestine

China welcomes the understanding on security cooperation just reached between Israel

and the Palestine and hopes that the two sides will earnestly implement the cease-fire agreement concluded in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, take prompt and effective measures to prevent the conflict from escalation and restore the regional stability.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the remarks Thursday at a regular press conference.

Zhu said that China has been concerned with the escalating conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, and has noticed the understanding reached. The previous agreement, aiming at

ending the violence that has plagued the region recently, is within the framework of an Israel-Palestine peace accord reached in an emergency Middle East summit in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Zhu said that China supports the mediation efforts of the international community to calm down the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and will, together with the international community,
