Beijing Begins Classified Garbage Disposal

Beijing is quickening its step to build a "Green Capital". It began from yesterday to introduce classified recovery and disposal of scrap paper in eight major districts, and the classified collection of waste plastics and batteries has been put on the government agenda and will soon be put into practice step by step.

According to the Beijing Municipal Administrative Committee, beginning from November 1, all Party and government organizations, companies, schools and universities and media in these districts must practice the classified collection of waste paper, otherwise the environment protection departments will refuse to clear away their rubbish.

It's reported that Beijing will introduce the practice of classified recovery of waste plastics and batteries in said districts by the end of this year. By 2002, all the work units and urban citizens of Beijing will have their rubbish classified and retrieved. By 2005, the utilization rate of retrieved trash will reach 30 percent in Beijing.
