Senior CPC Official Meets German Guests

The Communist Party of China ( CPC) and Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), both as the ruling parties, can cooperate in more fields, and make new contribution to promoting Sino-German relationship and friendship of the peoples of the two countries.

Wei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks Wednesday when meeting Franz Muentefering, federal general secretary of the SPD.

Wei, who is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, recalled his recent trip to Germany, saying that he held talks with German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder during the visit and exchanged views on party building and the ruling of countries, reaching agreements on furthering the cooperation between the two parties.

Wei added that he also met with officials in trade unions and entrepreneurs, and better understood the achievements Germany has made in economic growth and sustainable development.

He voiced his belief that friendly relations between two parties and states will be further promoted.

He said that his trip to Germany and Muentefering's visit to China are important contacts between the two parties since the end of 1980s, and turned over a new leaf for the smooth development of relations between the two states and parties.

Muentefering said that he hopes to learn China's current situation. The Chinese people have walked on a right road, which brings them happiness and promotes world development as well.

He said that SPD and CPC have had differences, but it has never kept them from conducting dialogue on the tasks and problems facing both. The close contact between the two parties will promote Sino-German relations, and strengthen the ties between Europe and China.
