China Holds Asia's Largest Fisheries & Seafood Expo

The Fifth China Fisheries & Seafood Expo, largest of its kind in Asia, opened Wednesday in Beijing. The exposition, which lasts three days, has attracted 413 enterprises from 30 countries and regions, including China, the United States, the UK, and India.

The exposition covers an area of 10,000 square meters and the visitors are estimated to top 15,000, including those from 50 countries and regions. Projects on the breeding and processing of seafood are featured at the exposition.

China will use this exposition as an international marketplace for technology exchanges and cooperation between fishery enterprises from at home and abroad, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture Wan Baorui said at the opening ceremony of the exposition.

The exposition provides opportunities for the world fisheries and seafood industry to explore China's rapidly-growing market, said Peter Redmayne, president of U.S.-based Sea Fare Expositions, the overseas co-organizer of the expo.

The first China Fisheries and Seafood Expo was held in 1996 in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China.
