The resolution, co-sponsored by 153 member states of the United Nations, was worked out and submitted jointly by the DPRK and the Republic of Korea (ROK). It was adopted by consensus at a plenary meeting of the 55th session of the U.N. General Assembly.

In a statement to the press, the DPRK's permanent mission to the U.N. said that the adoption of the resolution is also a manifestation of firm support of all member states for peace, security and reunification of Korea.
