Chongqing Exports Pork to Japan
Hechuan City of Chongqing Municipality has recently signed a contract to export 1 million US dollars worth of pork to Japan.
This is the first agreement Hechuan has signed of this kind since the city built a pig farm, considered to be the biggest in Asia, in 1998.
Hechuan is a major pig farming base in China. The city produced the highest pig output in the country in the Seventh Five-Year Plan (1986-1990) period.
The city has an area of over 30,000 square meters to enclose the animals, a fodder plant with a production capacity of 20,000 tons annually and a meat food company.
The farm has more than 3,000 grandmother sows, which are expected to produce 50,000 sows next year. The annual output of pigs is expected to be 1 million heads.
