DPRK Welcomes U.N. Resolution on Korean Peninsula

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday welcomed a U.N. resolution on the question of the Korean peninsula, saying the adoption of the resolution reflects the present positive development of the Korean peninsula resulted from the idea of national independence.

The resolution, co-sponsored by 153 member states of the United Nations, was worked out and submitted jointly by the DPRK and the Republic of Korea (ROK). It was adopted by consensus at a plenary meeting of the 55th session of the U.N. General Assembly.

In a statement to the press, the DPRK's permanent mission to the U.N. said that the adoption of the resolution is also a manifestation of firm support of all member states for peace, security and reunification of Korea.

The mission said the Joint Declaration issued by the two sides during their summit in last June will be implemented successfully amidst the continued active support and solidarity of the international community.

In the resolution, the General Assembly welcomed and supported the historic Inter-Korean Summit held in Pyongyang last June and its resulting Joint Declaration.

It also encouraged the two sides to continue to implement fully and in good faith the Joint Declaration and other agreements and invited member states to support the process of inter-Korean dialogue.
