China Sets up Research Center for Classic "Yi Jing"

The Chinese Ministry of Education Tuesday designated Shandong University as a national center for the research on the classic "Yi Jing", or "The Book of changes".

Shandong University in east China's Shandong province is known for studies of the classic. Professors at the university have worked on the book and published numerous findings since the 1930s.

Written some thousands of years ago, "Yi Jing" is full of abstruse words and complicated thoughts but is believed to successfully examine the general relationship and the law of motion of universal objects.

It has in history attracted numerous people who devoted their lives to revealing the truth in the book.

Many scholars at home and abroad hailed the decision. Professor Cheng Zhongying, chairman of the International Society on Yi Jing Study, is one of them.

He said it's the first time in 2,000 years of time that the study of Yi Jing has gained support from the central government, adding with excitement "it marks the renaissance of Chinese culture."
