China to Host 2003 Women's World Cup

The 2003 Women's World Cup is set to be held in China, according to a FIFA spokesman.

Committee for Women's Football under FIFA passed a resolution on October 24 to offer China the right to host the 2003 Women's World Cup.

Members of the FIFA executive committee will meet at the beginning of December to decide whether to approve it or not.

However, the spokesman said it is almost certain that the 2003 Cup will be held in China, because the FIFA approval is just a matter of procedure.

Sixteen teams, to be divided into four groups, will take part in the 2003 women's soccer tournament. The specific date for the matches has not been fixed yet.
