Kenyan President Meets Chinese Military Delegation

Kenyan President Daniel arap Moi, who is also commander in chief of Kenya's armed forces, on Monday met with a Chinese military delegation led by General Li Jinai at State House.

During the meeting, President Moi hailed the cordial relationship between Kenya and China, and reiterated Kenya's support for the One China policy.

The president said he appreciated the Sino-Kenyan cooperation in telecommunications development, road construction and other fields, and called for more investment in Kenya by the Chinese.

On the human rights issue, President Moi said China's case must be understood as the country has a difficult task of maintaining law and order among a population of over 1 billion.

General Li Jinai, who is Commissar of General Department of Military Equipment of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, conveyed to President Moi a message of greetings and goodwill from Chinese President Jiang Zemin, saying the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of the Sino-Kenyan relations.

Li said President Moi is an old friend of the Chinese people, and is highly honored, both regionally and internationally, for his statesmanship and his role in promoting regional stability and peace.

He thanked President Moi and his government for their support to China in many international issues including the human rights issue.

After the meeting, General Li held discussions with General Daudi Tonje, Chief of General Staff of Kenya's armed forces.

During their stay in Kenya, the Chinese military delegation also visited Kenya's national defense college, defense staff college and armed forces technical college.

The Chinese military delegation arrived here on October 27 for a five-day official visit and will leave for Tanzania and Zambia on October 31.
