China, EU Negotiate for WTO Entry

Trade officials of China and European Union (EU) continued talks in Beijing for China's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). They decided to begin a new round of talks next month for the remaining issues.

Shi Guangsheng, minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation put forward six proposals: to take the opportunity of China's entry to the WTO to conduct all-round cooperation in trade, investment and technological cooperation according to the WTO rules; to increase trade on a large scale and open market to each other to create a favorable environment for trade and economic cooperation; to make use of respective advantages to speed up cooperation and technological trade in the development of high-tech industry; to push on cooperation between small and medium enterprises while boosting cooperation between large enterprises; China welcomes EU's participation in the development of China's western region; and further promote the development of trade and economic relations.
