Macao SAR Govt Moves into New Office Buildings

Macao SAR Government Moves in New Office Building
The headquarters of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government was moved Monday into a complex of office buildings which had been used by the governor and some senior officials of the former Portuguese Macao government.

Since the founding of the SAR in December 1999, the chief executive and senior officials of the SAR had worked in a leased office building.

The former governor's palace in the front of the complex has been transformed into a place where Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah meets visitors. His actual office and those of four senior Macao SAR officials are situated in the back of the complex.

Overhaul of the buildings started in March this year with expenditures of 36 million patacas (4.5 million U.S. dollars). Its basic features have been retained.

The former governor's palace is a two-story building with Portuguese architectural style. It had served as the office of Portuguese Macao governors since 1881.
