New Industry Park for Taiwan Investors Inaugurated

A new industry park especially devoted to investors from Taiwan was inaugurated Monday in Wuhan, on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

Representatives from over 300 domestic and overseas businesses attended today's launching ceremony and held trade talks. They signed agreements on investing in 47 projects, including 15 foreign-invested ventures. These projects require a total investment of 5.11 billion yuan (about 616 million U.S. dollars).

The Wujiashan State Mainland-Taiwan Science and Technology Industry Park in Dongxihu District of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, was established in January this year with the approval from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Wuhan city government has listed the industry park as its high-tech demonstration zone, the third state development zone in the city. The other two are Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone and Donghu High-Tech Development Zone.

So far, there are 69 businesses that have registered at Wujiashan industry park, about a half of which are high-tech ventures.

An administrative official for the Wujiashan industry park said that they would cooperate with the science and technology industry park in Hsinchu of Taiwan to attract more Taiwan investors for the new park.

Today's unveiling of the name plate for the Wujiashan industry park was also attended by Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and also head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
