Shanghai to Buy Satellite Communication Tech from Israel

Shanghai will spend millions of US dollars buying satellite communication technology from Israel to provide its Internet users with faster and convenient access services.

The specific technology, named "Very Small Aperture Terminal" and abbreviated to VSAT, needs an antenna with a shorter diameter than traditional satellites but covers a larger area with lower cost.

The VSAT is a new emerging technology with about three million clients, mostly in Europe, United States and Japan.

Shanghai has decided to set up a VSAT application and research center with the Gilat Satellite Networks Company who possesses the most advanced VSAT communication technology in the world.

After satellite Internet access service is ready with VSAT, users can radio access the Internet a hundred times faster than what can be done now so long as the person has his/her computer equipped with special reception and transmission cards.
