Tibet's New Party Chief Called for Continuous Fight Against Splittism

Guo Jinlong, the newly appointed Chinese Communist Party chief of Tibet, said that the policy on the fight against Tibetan splittism will remain unchanged in this region.

"We will maintain the old policies on safeguarding social stability, keeping predominance in fighting against Tibetan splittism, and furthering the reform and opening up," he said at a Party meeting on Sunday.

Guo Jinlong was appointed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to replace Chen Kuiyuan as the secretary of the regional CPC committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region early this month.

In the past years, Tibet's economy has achieved remarkable progress, and the region has effectively checked turbulence staged by separatists and gained an advantaged position in the fight, according to Guo.

Guo said that the development of the economy will still be the focus of the region, and that the Tibetans' living conditions should be improved constantly.

Guo, former executive secretary of the Tibet regional CPC committee, has been working in Tibet for seven years.
