A naming ceremony for UPM-Kymmene Paper Industry Co., Ltd., the largest Finland-funded project in China, was held in Changshu City of Jiangsu Province, east China on October 29.
The paper mill was jointly launched by Finland and Indonesia in 1997. It is now wholly owned by Finland when Finland reinvested US$150 million to purchase the other 51 percent of the company's stakes held by Indonesia recently.
The corporation produces 350,000 tons of paper a year and runs a thermal power plant, a wastewater disposal system and a wharf catering to raw material and product transport. Part of its products are for export.
Kalevi Hemila, agricultural minister of Finland, and Ji Yunshi, governor of Jiangsu were present at the ceremony. They described the event as a sign of a new stage for cooperation between the two countries.
