Israelis Warned of Possible Terrorist AttacksIsraelis were again warned of potential terrorist attacks on Sunday as intelligence indicates that certain terrorist groups have penetrated into the country.Police Commissioner Yehuda Wilk said after the weekly cabinet meeting that there are intelligence warnings over possible terrorist attacks and cautioned the public to stay alert. Prime Minister Ehud Barak said that there is great concern over the warnings. He noted that security forces can not ensure 100 percent success in the efforts to thwart such attacks. Therefore, he said, the public must also be alert. Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh said more than one terrorist group are trying to carry out attacks "at the heart of the country." Sneh called on the Israelis to live a normal life while at the same time keeping an eye on suspicious individuals and objects. On the border area with Lebanon, the minister said that extreme elements led by Iran and radical Islamic Hezbollah are trying to draw Israel into a confrontation in order to sabotage the peace process. On Sunday, shots were again fired at an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) patrol in the north, which drew return fire. But no one was hurt. It was the second such incident within a week. Israel has reportedly beefed up its security on the northern border on Friday. Sneh accused Syria, which supports Hezbollah, of doing nothing to stop the attacks. The deputy defense minister also said that Israel has not received any information concerning the three soldiers abducted by Hezbollah guerrillas on October 7.
