East China Province Reports Brisk Foreign Trade

East China's Jiangsu Province, a leading exporter, generated 33.14 billion US dollars from foreign trade during the first three quarters of the year, up 52.7 percent over the same period in 1999.

The volume included 18.83 billion U.S. dollars in exports and 14.31 billion U.S. dollars in imports, up 47.4 percent and 60.3 percent, respectively.

Local experts said this means Jiangsu's foreign trade sector has resumed high growth after getting rid of the negative impact of the Asian financial crisis that started in 1997.

The experts attributed the upward trend to an improving global as well as national economy.

The development of high-tech industries has also contributed to the rapid growth in foreign trade.

Statistics show that exports of machinery and electronics products surged 60.2 percent to reach 8.54 billion U.S. dollars during the January-September period.
