Chinese Win Dalian Marathon Titles

Home runners Zhong Weifu and Sun Jing claimed the men's and women's titles respectively in the Dalian Marathon race with unimpressive results Sunday in Dalian.

Sun Jing, from Liaoning, Northeast China, covered the distance in two hours 40 minutes and 54 seconds for the victory while her teammate Li Ji, who had finished seventh in the women's 10,000 meters at Sydney Olympics, came in third with a time of 2:40:57. Tian Mei, also of China, edged Li by two seconds to clinch the runner-up place.

In the men's competition, Zhong Weifu and his compatriot Wang Yonghua completed a 1-2 finish for China, clocking 2:18:09 and 2:18:53 respectively. Japanese Hashimoto Tadayuki came third in 2:18:55.

More than 400 athletes from 25 countries and regions particiapted in the annual event.
