First Major Study of Commonwealth Countries by Chinese Scholars

The first four in a series of books, entitled "A Study on the Modernization of Commonwealth Countries", were published recently. This is the first time that Chinese scholars have thoroughly researched the process of modernization in the 50 Commonwealth countries.

The series will contain 18 books. The four which have already been published are "Australia", "Malaysia", "South Africa" and "Ghana".

Zi Zhongyun, an expert with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, commented, "These books contain careful studies of the case in each country and explore the special way each country has progressed towards modernization. The common characteristics of their modernization process are also highlighted in the books."

The books were compiled by the World History Faculty of Nanjing University, and published by the People's Publishing House of Sichuan Province.

Qian Chengdan, chief editor of the books, is a member of the History Section of the Academic Degree Commission under the State Council and also a corresponding fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
