China Protects Textile Relics

China recently set up a special center for identifying and conserving its increasing textile relics.

The Chinese Center for Textile Identification and Conservation, based at China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, will focus on identifying, testing, cleaning, repairing and replicating textile relics, especially unearthed silk products.

The center mainly consists of an identification section, a cleaning laboratory, and a library that operates a textile collection information system.

Archeologists said the center will greatly help strengthen the protection of textile relics in the country.

According to archeologists, many ancient textile products became ruined soon after they were excavated in the past because of the lack of scientific conservation measures.
