China Launches Campaign for Men's HealthChina launched October 28 a large-scale campaign in 16 big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing and Hangzhou, publicizing care for men's health.The State Family Planning Commission (SFPC) sets October 28 as Men's Health Day and organized today publicity activities for the first time. Wu Jieping, vice-chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said that it is significant to organize such kind of activities in China, especially in big cities. The Chinese people should know necessity and importance of men's health as much as possible, said Wu, who is also a well-known urologist. The promotion activities included medical consultations, lectures, exhibitions and performances. At downtown commercial hub in Xidan of Beijing, medical experts from nine prestigious local hospitals provided comprehensive consultation to passers-by. Free condoms were also offered for visitors. With the help of the manufacturer of erectile dysfunction (ED) curative Viagra, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Ltd., the publicity office of the Men's Health Day affiliated to the SFPC carried out the nationwide knowledge promotion drive. With an increasingly bigger aging population, the nation has seen a high incidence of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and ED. According to an authoritative estimation, more than half of the Chinese men over 40 years old suffer from ED.
