German Metro to Open Two Warehouse Shops in Wuhan

German Metro, a transnational chain-store dealer, will open two new shopping malls in Wuhan, on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, is divided into three parts of Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang by the mighty Yangtze River.

According to the local sources, the two shops will be situated in the Qiaokou District of Hankou and Hongshan District of Wuchang. The shop in the Qiaokou District, which will cost 15 million U.S. dollars, will have a floor space of 16,000 sq m, as well as a parking lot and green land totaling 20,000 sq m. The shop will be ready for service in late February next year.

The shop in Hongshan District, costing 16 million U.S. dollars, will be operational in late November next year, said the sources.

At the ongoing second Wuhan Golden Autumn Fair, the German chain-store giant Thursday organized a special function to negotiate matters regarding procurement with Chinese enterprises attending the fair, in a bid to make preparations for the inauguration of the two shops. The German company eventually signed letters of intent regarding cooperation with more than 500 Chinese companies.

A corporate executive said that German Metro has opened eight chain-store shops in such Chinese cities as Shanghai, Qingdao and Fuzhou, with a membership of one million people. He pledged that German Metro would expand the Chinese market by opening ten new shops a year in the future.
