Chinese Chess Team to Play in International Chess Olympics
The Chinese chess team, consisting of 16 members, started on its way October 26 to the 34th International Chess Olympics in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to the international grading scores, Chinese team's six men players who are coached by Li Wenling in turn are Ye Jiangchuan, Xun Jun, Peng Xiaomin, Wu Wenjin, Liang Chong, and Ni Hua; and four women players who are coached by Zhang weida in turn are Xie Jun, Zhu Chen, Xu Yuhua and Wang Lei. Switzerland grading round robin system will be adopted in contests. First-run contests will start on October 28 and all contests will finish on November 2.
The International Chess Olympics, which is held biennially, is the biggest and top-level international chess group contest in the world. Over one hundred men and women teams take part in this contest. The Chinese women chess team won its first champion and the Chines men team ranked world fifth in 1998's 33rd International Chess Olympics. Currently, the Chinese women team ranks world first in average international grading scores and the men team upgraded to world fifth from world 35th. Chen Zude, president of Chinese Chess Association, set the goal for Chinese team to win women's champion and win better record in men's contests. All Chinese players are full of confidence in setting good records.
