French Chemical Company Increases Presence in China

French chemical company Rhodia recently opened a vanillic aldehyde plant in east China as part of its endeavor to increase its presence in this country.

The plant, Rhodia-Haining Fine Chemicals Co. Ltd., based in Haining, a booming city in east China's Zhejiang Province, is designed to produce 1,000 tons of vanillic aldehyde annually.

Its products are to be sold in China and other Asian countries.

Rhodia, one of the world leaders in specialty chemicals, has established nine joint ventures and three solely-funded enterprises in China over the last few years, with a total investment of 200 million U.S. dollars.

This year it set up its China headquarters in Shanghai, along with a 100,000-sq-m technological park, an Asia-Pacific technological center and nine labs.
