China to Launch Campaign Against Fake Goods
The Chinese government will launch a new round of nationwide crackdowns on rampant criminal activities involving the production and selling of counterfeit goods, in a bid to protect the legal interests and rights of both consumers and manufacturers.
Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo announced the plan for the campaign at Thursday's national teleconference on the issue, calling for joint efforts from different localities and departments concerned.
Many well-known brands in the country have been suffering from such crimes, which involved in groups and in large size.
"Fake and substandard goods are so rampant that they have become a major social evil," Wu said, noting that these goods are threatening the health and life of the people, disturbing market order, infringing upon the interests and rights of enterprises and damaging the image of both China-made commodities and the nation.
He said that the upcoming campaign will focus on nine kinds of goods, including fake farm chemicals, composite fertilizer, seeds, building materials, automobile parts, cigarettes, medicine, disposable injectors and cosmetics.
Authorities will handle a number of major criminal cases, according to the official.
The vice-premier said that the State Council has set up a national coordinate group to help crackdown on counterfeit goods.
