China Makes Headway in Underground Coal Gasifying

Jointly conducted by Shandong Xinwen Mining Group and China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), a technological research on "Underground Coal Gasifying" which has lately passed experts' assessment, appraised as world advanced much worth of popularization.

Coal underground gasifying is a hi-tech process mastered by only a few countries. In theory, it can realize measured burning of underground coals and produce flammable gas, therefore turning traditional physical method of coal extraction into a chemical way of tapping gas from underground.

Xinwen Group has been first credited with the success of coal gasifying. Their technicians moved a surface gasifier into the pit in integrating three major techniques of pit building, coal extracting and gasifying without any outside aid of professional staff and equipment.

Presently a daily amount of 40,000 cu m water gas can be produced and has been put into use in some of workers' houses and industrial boilers.

Affected by traditional extracting techniques, environment protection policies and security considerations, some coal mines under rivers, bridges and buildings give difficulty for coal extraction. But when used the technique will bring new life to those old and deserted mines.
