World Largest Postal Service Network Came into Being in China

China has formed the largest postal service network of the world either in number of post offices, postal routes or in dispatching equipment and means of conveyances.

According to the news from "International Communication Equipment Technology Exhibition 2000" held on October 24, China has 236 dispatching centers for postal matters and 67,000 post offices. These postal centers and offices have formed a modernized postal network of a considerable size for express mail-delivery by means of over 22,000 postal routes spanning over 2.98 million km, and a fleet of cars, trains, ships and airplanes.

By way of innovation in technology and management, the dispatching speed for ordinary mails, as starting from last September 1st, has been sped up, an average of 2 - 3 days faster than that of last year. And from October 1st onwards, residents in more than 2,300 cities above county level can enjoy the service of parcels directly delivered to their homes free of surcharges. In addition, online purchase, online remittance, and stamp collection as well as online newspaper subscription are no longer the things rare to encounter.

China has so far established ties for postal communication with 150 countries and regions in the world with letters and parcels able to reach every corner of it. The express mails can be delivered to 200 countries and regions, and international money remittance can be conducted in 20 countries and regions.
