Intel China Labs Set up

Intel Corporation announced Wednesday that it will set up the Intel China Labs, an umbrella program for Intel's extensive research and development organization in China.

Focusing on both basic and applied research, the Intel China Labs will provide a means to coordinate and enhance Intel's research efforts in China, said Craig Barrett, Intel's president and chief executive officer.

"Research and development is the engine for Intel's continued growth and leadership, and China is emerging as a key location for Intel's R&D efforts," said Barrett.

Barrett also announced the expansion of the Intel Internet Exchange Architecture Academic Program to China, which is designed to increase the pace of telecommunications and networking

technology adoption and usage in China.

Over the past five years, Intel has established three major research and development organizations in China: the Intel china Research center, focusing on human-computer interface research; the Intel China Software Labs, developing systems software for Intel products; and the Intel Architecture labs, an application development organization.

Other developments include the Intel Internet Exchange Architect Lab, the Wireless Competency Center and the Intel China Labs' China Research Council.
