Vice Premier Meets HK Chief Executive

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) this afternoon at Zhongnanhai Compound in Beijing.

Tung Chee Hwa, who has paid his annual duty visit to Beijing, reported the recent condition of Hong Kong.

Qian said since China resumed sovereignty over Hong Kong, policies like "one country, two systems", and "Hong Kong People Governing Hong Kong with Highly Autonomy" have achieved success in Hong Kong.

He noted that one of the reasons for this success is that the Hong Kong SAR government followed the "Hong Kong Basic Law". He also wished for Hong Kong people to continue to support Tung Chee Hwa and his government, and contribute to the social stability and economic development of Hong Kong.
