China Grants Emergency Aid to Vietnam's Flood Victims

The China Red Cross Society has granted 50,000 U.S. dollars to the Vietnam Red Cross in supporting victims in the country's flooded Mekong delta.

Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Qi Jianguo, on behalf of the China Red Cross Society, handed over the money to President of Vietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Trong Nhan on Wednesday.

At a brief hand-over ceremony, the Chinese ambassador expressed his sympathy and solicitude for the people of the flooded Mekong delta and his belief that under the leadership of the Party and Government of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will definitely overcome the disasters and successfully rebuild their homes.

Nhan, on behalf of the Vietnam Red Cross, thanked the Chinese Government and the China Red Cross for the aid and promised to pass immediately the money on to the victims of the flooded Mekong delta.

The floods, which hit Vietnam's Mekong delta for three months, have claimed over 400 lives. Total loss has been estimated at 3.609 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 257.79 million U.S. dollars).
