Palestinian Faction Urges Arab Countries to Boycott Israel

A major Damascus-based Palestinian faction on Tuesday urged the Arab countries to boycott Israel.

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) commended in a statement Monday's move taken by Morocco to shut down the Israeli liaison office in Rabat and the Moroccan liaison office in Tel Aviv.

Such a move "was very important in supporting the Palestinian people's intifada (uprising)," said the statement.

The Moroccan Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Monday that the move was in "reaction to the failure of the peace process and the Israeli inhuman actions against the Palestinian civilians over the last three weeks."

"Israel resorted to the machine of war to kill innocent civilians," it added.

Morocco made the decision just 24 hours after Tunisia on Sunday suspended the function of Israeli interest section in Tunis and the Tunisian interest section in Tel Aviv.

"The Moroccan move and similar positive steps by Omani and Tunisian governments should be followed by further measures to revive the total Arab boycott of Israel," said the faction in its statement.

DFLP is one of the eight Damascus-based factions opposed to the 1993 Oslo peace accords with Israel.
