China to Mark Int'l Chess Festival

Zhongyuanwei China Int'l Chess Festival is to be held by yearend to early next year in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. To culminate the coming chess gala, famous player Ye Jiangchuan will turn up single alone in a grand game to challenge 1,000 contestants from yearend Dec 31 to Jan 1, 2001.

It is to the credit of China Chess Association, Shanxi Chess Association and Shanxi Zhongyuanwei Medicine Corporation that grand China int'l chess matches are mapped. Contesting matches between single players and groups and a quick match between chess queen Xie Jun and int'l chess king from abroad will be held. Middle school students as young players from eight provinces will also be chosen and represented in contests to mark the festival to be held.
