Kuwait Flies in 5 Injured Palestinians

Five injured Palestinians aboard a special Kuwaiti plane arrived in Kuwait Monday from Amman of Jordan for treatment in Kuwaiti hospitals.

A Kuwaiti medical team was escorting the wounded Palestinians during the flight.

Kuwaiti Minister of Health Mohammad Ahmad Al-Jarallah, who greeted the Palestinians at the airport, said that the "Kuwaiti leadership, government and people are proud of the heroes of the Palestinian uprising."

He said that receiving the Palestinians for treatment in Kuwait was an extension of similar initiatives made by Kuwaiti leadership, government and people in support of the Palestinians in the occupied areas.

He assured the Palestinians that Kuwait would offer them full medical care.

Kuwait announced to take in some injured Palestinians for treatment earlier this month. It has also sent two planeloads of medical and humanitarian supplies for the Palestinian people, since the outbreak of the violent clashes between civilian Palestinians and heavily-armed Israeli forces three weeks ago.

The bloody Palestinian-Israeli confrontations, triggered by Israeli Likud Party leader Ariel Sharon's visit to a Muslims' shrine in East Jerusalem on September 28, have claimed over 120 lives, mostly Palestinians, and wounded more than 3,500 others.
