Shanghai Holds Int'l Industry Fair
Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said Tuesday China will further develop high-tech industries, information technology, bio-engineering and new materials.
China will step up efforts to promote innovation and turn high-tech industries into new growth areas, said Wu at the opening ceremony of the Shanghai International Industry Fair.
The five-day fair displays the world's latest developments and achievements in information technology, bio-pharmaceuticals, new materials and many other high-tech sectors.
More than 30 multinational corporations and hundreds of other Chinese and foreign companies and universities are attending the fair.

High-level symposiums on China's development strategy in the new century, China's entry into the World Trade Organization, technological innovation and development of the western region will also be held during the fair.
Shanghai aims to become a showcase for the development of domestic and international high-tech ventures, a global high-tech information exchange center and a high-tech trade center by hosting the annual fair.
It held the first international industry fair last year, which attracted more than 3,000 Chinese and overseas business people.
