Thai Queen Sirikit Visits Shanghai

Queen Sirikit of the Kingdom of Thailand and her party visited Shanghai in east China, and met with local officials Monday.

Huang Ju, secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), briefed the guests on Shanghai's economic development and urban construction during a meeting with the Queen.

Huang, also member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that he hopes Sirikit's visit will further the friendly cooperation between Shanghai and Thailand.

Sirikit said that she has got a better understanding of the history, culture, and society of Shanghai after the visit, stressing that it will be helpful in enhancing the friendship between her country and Shanghai.

Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi also met with the Queen this evening.

Sirikit arrived in Shanghai last evening from Xi'an, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province.
