Forum on Education of Higher Learning Across Taiwan Straits

More than 200 university presidents, and professors from 100 colleges of higher learning across the Taiwan Straits Monday gathered in Wuhan City in central China's Hubei Province to discuss subjects regarding higher learning education on both sides of the Straits.

Initiated by 31 universities of higher learning from both sides of the Straits, the first trans-century forum on education of higher learning across the Taiwan Straits was jointly hosted by the Central China University of Science and Technology and Taiwan University.

While addressing the forum, Zhou Ji, President of Central China University of Science and Technology, said that with the challenges of the new century, the forum is programmed to discuss reform and innovation in education of science and technology and to promote cooperation between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits in scientific and technological education.

During the forum, participants agreed that finding a way to realize innovations in scientific and technological education and become listed among the world's best universities is a common problem colleges of higher learning on both sides of the Taiwan Straits now face.

They called for increased exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Straits to realize a greater progress in higher education.

The forum will become an annual event and will be hosted in turns by universities from both sides of the Straits.
